Colocation Munich City

In the late Nineties, the "Neue Hopfenpost" area located between the Bayerischen Rundfunk (Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation) and the main railway station in Munich was redeveloped into several computer centres.

Parallel to this, several carriers proceeded to build up their backbones there. One of these carriers, for example, is the Tier-1 provider Global Crossing.

Hofmeir Media GmbH maintains an own colocation in an enclosed, secure cage in this area. The racks here are state-of-the-art Knürr models, which are operated in a cold process housing. In this configuration, the cooling capacity for each rack can be increased to more than 6000 W. At the same time, three totally independent circuits of 10 Ampere each can be switched per rack.

The entire area is under constant comprehensive surveillance by numerous cameras. In addition, access to the computer centre requires two access controls, involving a transponder card followed by a PIN verification. Additional security features are in place, such as securing the cages, and the racks they contain, with numeric and code locks.

Naturally, there is a redundant UPS installation based on a diesel generator, and there is also a modern argon-gas-based extinguisher unit.
